No Excuses Weight Loss: “I don’t have time to exercise because I have to work”
Have you been watching this season’s Biggest Loser “No Excuses”? If not, don’t sweat it. It’s really quite irritating at this point. Right now (week 11) all the fun personalities that were likeable are gone and the people who are left are a lackluster group of annoying personalities that no one seems to like.
(Plus, many of the remaining contestants are simply bullies – even the Biggest Loser trainer Bob Harper admitted that this season is plain nasty. He and fellow trainer, Dolvett Quince – not to mention the viewers and the eliminated contestants – are upset that the inspirational show has taken such a downward turn. The bully group that is really bringing the whole show down.)
Anyway, this season’s motto is “No excuses”:
“I can’t lose weight on without a gym,”
“I can’t get out of my comfort zone”
“I can’t lose weight on vacation”
“I can’t lose weight on without my trainer,” etc.
These are all popular excuses.
But, in my case, my most frequent excuse for missing my workouts is “I don’t have time to exercise because I have to work on my computer”. You see, when you do web design, internet marketing and online publishing, there is always something to do: checking emails, writing articles, updating websites. So I decided to look into some options how to incorporate physical activity with computer work, and here is what I found:
Treadmill Workstation to the Rescue!
Want to lose up to 57 lbs in one year?
Can’t find enough time to get to the gym?
Spend lots of time in front of a computer?
If your excuse for not exercising and losing weight is that you have to check your email (in case you got one of those super-urgent inheritance emails
), browse do research on your computer, or update your Facebook Linkedin account to make sure prospective employers can find you, then the treadmill workstation setup may be just what you need!
If you want to buy a fancy workstation, they can be really expensive – about $5,000 for a high-end executive-style treadmill desks. There are also more affordable options, such as TrekDesk Treadmill desk, on Amazon for about $500.
But the cheapest option is to setup this type of workstation yourself. And you don’t even need to be the most skilled person. Just look at some videos below.
Of course, you will need the treadmill too. If you don’t already have one sitting in the close or in your garage, ask around to see if any of your neighbors wants to get rid of his/her treadmill. If not, look on Craiglist or Freecycle to find inexpensive treadmill. If you are lucky, you may even get one for free.
Treadmill Desk Workout
Working at the treadmill takes some getting used to. Don’t expect to get your usual workout done. You need to be walking at a slow to moderate pace, at about one mile an hour, which is a little more than one step a second. Once you get the hang of it, you will not even notice it as you will keep burning those calories.
How far can you walk in 1 day while working at your Treadmill Desk?
Answer:
The average distance is 5-10 miles or more.
Trekdesk Treadmill Desk Reviews
Here are some Trekdesk treadmill desk reviews by real people who have tried them:
Six weeks in:
1.) Very Even Energy — no afternoon lows, or mid-morning blahs… I have consistent energy during the day (averaging about 5-6 miles / day)
2.) Low Back Pain Gone — I’ve had chronic lower back pain for years. I’m now convinced that pain was from tight hip flexors caused by sitting in conventional chair all day. My back pain isn’t better, it is completely gone.
3.) Weight Loss — I wasn’t expecting or wanting to lose weight, so not a big surprise there for me. If I ate the same amount of food and made the same choices I used to make… I’d probably be losing at least 1 lb / week. I view this more as a “eat-whatever-you-want-and-not-gain-weight” proposition!
I thought that I’d want to keep my old sitting desk and have the TrekDesk for a couple of hours each day, but I’m 100% on the TD now (averaging 25-30 miles / week), and no longer have a sit desk at the office. The office staff thinks I’m a bit wierd, but I’ve never felt better and had more fun at the office.
I absolutely love my TrekDesk. When I started working from home, I found myself glued to my desk for 9 hours a day. With a plate full of work and nobody around to pull me away, I was literally sitting all day, and my body was taking a toll. My back ached, my behind was losing it’s tone, and I was starting to see a pooch on my lower abdomen. The TrekDesk gave me energy, lifted my rear, and sent my pooch packing. It is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Of course, with enough creativity, you may stay productive on an elliptical too, but it may not be as easy as with treadmill workstation.
